About the Author

Jeremy Wells was born in Hillingdon, in the late, lamented county of Middlesex, in the very last days of the 1950s and moved with his family to St Leonards-on-Sea in the very first days of the 1970s.

He spent eight miserable years at Hastings Grammar School - a period extended beyond the minimum required to achieve his brace of mediocre 'A' Levels by a horrendous motorcycle accident in the spring of 1978.

On leaving school, he got a job as a cub reporter on the Hastings Observer and has spent most of his subsequent career in journalism. He was editor of the Folkestone Herald and Dover Express newspapers from 1989-1997 - titles for which he won a national design award in 1994.

He currently works as a freelance writer 'of just about anything you want' and lives on the West Hill, in Hastings, with his partner, Ginny, a cowardly King Charles cavalier spaniel called Rosie and a very old and eccentric cat called Puke.

Mr Wells would be delighted to hear any comments readers of Bats in the Larder might care to offer and can be contacted directly by e-mail at contact@jeremywells.co.uk.
